Poem: How Friendship Dies

How Friendship Dies
How does friendship die?
Most of the time it lingers in senility,
Like an old man who can't remember
Where he's supposed to be.
You never write, you never call.
Where's the love?
Other times, it dies suddenly,
Like a deer hit by a bus,
And it's just as messy
And traumatic for the driver.
No one wants to see that,
And yet there it is,
The remains of a friendship
Running red on the highway of life.
Cover the children's eyes.
They don't need to see this.
They'll learn on their own
How cruel life can be.
