QotD: Scared Senseless
What are your irrational fears?
Submitted by Dan Culhane.
My mother, Ladeewolf, came to visit last week and asked me if I remembered the paintings of sad kittens and puppies with huge eyes that I used to have in my room. I don't know what brought them up, but she remembered them and said she thought they were cute. I had to admit to her that I had found them frightening as a child, but never told her. They were kitsch, but they're creepy. After scouring the Internet for a while today, I think I found the actual paintings that were up in my room:
Excuse me, sir, can I have a sardine? Nevermind. I'll be dead in an hour, anyway.
I'd lick you, but I have worms.
Yeah, Mom, you found these cute? Nothing like reminding young children that being cute and vulnerable is no defense against dying from crippling poverty.
I found some other interesting things in my search. There was an artist by the name of Margaret Keane that applied the same technique to children:
Aw, look at the cute little waif.
And then I found an artist by the name of Sas Christian that seems to use the creepiness factor of the technique to good benefit.
I wonder if Sas Christian had big-eyed puppies and kittens in his room as a child, and they scarred him for life?

I thought you meant the kitten and the little girl, being 1 and 3! Well, vampires are cool, but I don't see any pointed teeth. I think she's just out killing wild animals and eating them raw. Or, since she's apparently naked, she just transformed back from her she-werewolf form and feasting on some innocent pedestrian.
Or, maybe I'm reading too much into the painting. :->
Check out the link to the artist's page. I really like the rest of his stuff, too.
