Cristina Elizabeth, who up to now seemed like a really cool person, has tagged me with the Ten Things meme. So now, to uphold my honor, I must come up with ten things that people here don't know about me. Fine! Thanks a lot!

1. I played the saxophone in the Junior High marching band at a small school in rural Missouri. We played complicated pieces like "Working in a Coal Mine" by Devo and... "Working in a Coal Mine" by Devo. We weren't very good, but I thought I was the stuff. I quit when we moved to a bigger town and I had to change schools, but I kept playing on my own all the way into college.

2. I almost joined the army. In my senior year of high school, I entered into the Delayed Entry Program, went to the MEP center for my physical, and everything. I dropped out when I got a full ride scholarship to Southwest Missouri State University, now just Missouri State University. I lost my scholarship at the end of my Freshman year when I met the woman who was to become my wife and my attention drifted away from scholarly pursuits for a while, but I'm still thankful that I didn't go into the service. About the time I was struggling with Calc II and roommate issues in this reality, I would have been trudging through the desert in Gulf War I in the other reality.

3. I'm addicted to The Sims 2. I play it obsessively, and I have all but one of the expansion packs. I've got some families that I've run for several generations.

4. Like Cristina Elizabeth, people find me very hard to read, emotionally. I don't display emotion like many people, but I do feel it. It's come back to me through the grapevine that some people I know think I am completely emotionless and have no sense of humor, which is really not true. I've just found that showing my emotions is often not helpful, so I've learned to keep them to myself.

5. I like to cook. I don't like cooking whole meals for multiple people, but I like experimenting in the kitchen for just Strix and me. I'm usually pretty good at it, but every once in a while I come up with something that has to be sealed in a biohazard container and Greenpeace protests when we try to dump it.

6. I have alien feet. My biological father had toes so long that he could write with his feet. My toes are so long that I can pick things up with them. If I splay them out, they look like they should be on a tree frog, not a human.

7. I had my first kiss when I was eight years old. She was our landlord's daughter.

8. The first time I asked a girl on a date, she laughed at me, thus setting me up for a lifetime of depression and low self-worth.

9. I have no marketable skills. I'm in management. That's two facts, but they only count as one because they mean the same thing.

10. I have a magical aura that causes machines to stop malfunctioning when I approach them. Strix has the opposite effect, which makes for interesting times.

I tag no one, because I wouldn't do that to them.

By the way, CE, I still think you're cool.
